Some major mods have to be tinkered (mainly MCM). Aside from that, it works well with Steam Tinker Launch, Lutris or MO2 port
LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 gamemoderun %command%
Try MO2 first and then anything else

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -b --mangoapp -- %command%
Messed with Fallout_default.ini to reduce mouse issues
Capped at 60 fps. I had issues with alt-tabbing breaking it without gamescope

The Fallout New Vegas launcher doesn't start. "Application Load Error 5:0000065434"
Couldn't seem to fix the issue, with online forums.
I also tried to run the FNV PCR version. Here, the launcher did start, but upon clicking play, an error would appear: "The game is not installed and the installer can not be found".

Runs buuuut
be sure to install wine and wine-mono packages, else the game will immediately crash. No tinkering required outside of having these installed.

Somewhat buggy but still overall enjoyable. Save frequently in case of freezes, crashes, etc.
Sometimes cannot re-enter fullscreen when you switch to another window then switch back; often the window is stuck small
Semi-frequent freezes. Not so frequent it's unplayable but frequent relative to how often you want a game to freeze. No fix, you have to htop and sigterm steam and then restart everything.

Mouse speed in menue ect is a little quick
When i first installed the game it would not launch. Had to enable compability and once that done restart steam completely in order to bring up the launch menu
To those who may run into same issue from a fresh install:
1: Insure compatibility proton is enable
2: Check "Steamworks Common Redistributables" installed, by go under your games in steam. At your top of your game list, click the drop down menu and select "Tools" and it should become visable
3: Once that is done and if it still don't launch, close steam 100% / kill steam and try again
4 Optional: In case you are looking for your save files then they should be located at (Be aware i use flatpak version so yours might be different):
/home/##Username##/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/22380/
Tabbing out in fullscreen crashes the game 9/10

YOu WILL need stability mods for the game to acctually be able to run, jsut like on windows but proton will work

Lowered TPD down to 8W

Runs pretty well after some tinkering. To be expected from the ol' buggy mess this game is. You can probably run it without tinkering though
gamescope -f -W 2560 -H 1440 -r 239.95 --force-grab-cursor -- %command%
I'm on Hyprland, and the game wouldn't fullscreen well. I had to use gamescope to fix this, and --force-grab-cursor to fix the mouse sensitivity. (I also had to downgrade my gamescope version to have the mouse locked to the screen)
Game runs perfectly fine, but after about 20-30 minutes it slows down to a crawl and requires a restart. Wish I knew how to fix it!
Gamemoderun with this game doesn't seem to work. It fails to launch.
IMPORTANT for modding: I used NVSE and NVTF and it worked as intended as far as I could tell.

Everything on max settings at 60fps.
Even the launcher can be accessed via controller since a Proton update.

The game functions flawlessly, and I did not experience any issues!

(steamrip) use the wine registry to set the directory of game and use the launcher with wine
if u are using steamrip u have to do some tinkering first: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeckPirates/comments/1cazrel/steam_deck_fallout_new_vegas_help_please_hoping/

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command% -useallavailablecores
Did not install any mods, also i did not experience any crashes maybe it's because of my old hardware. Runs better than windows, faster loading times.

gamemoderun %command% -useallavailablecores
Sometimes far away textures flicker, not sure why
Overall, with V-SYNC turned off it's more "fluid" than on Windows 10. No issues during short or long play sessions. I tried limiting frames to 60FPS (or 64FPS as somebody suggested), but it makes the fights a stutter show.

mangohud gamescope -f -w 1920 -h 1080 -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 144 --force-grab-cursor -e -- %command%
Without tinkering, the game experiences frequent stuttering and frame rate drops. In order to fix them, I had to download and run the 'FNV 4GB Patcher' as well as the 'FNV BSA Decompressor.'
After doing so, and setting the right launch options in Steam, the game now runs buttery smooth at an average of 130 FPS with 1% lows of 95 FPS.
Note: I also installed 'NMCs_Texture_Pack_For_New_Vegas' and 'NMC's Pre-Generated LOD Updated' but they shouldn't have much, if any impact on overall preformance.

Works (mostly) well out of the box
Occasional delay between input and action in game
Probably more due to the vanilla instability of the Game => Mods to fix are reccomended
Doesn´t start at all. Steam shows "Running" for a few seconds and then it stops.
Install ModOrganizer using the Linux ModOrganizer install script, and then follow the Viva New Vegas guide to improve performance. Runs just as well as it did on Windows.
Works perfectly out of the box with Proton 9.0, no configuration/tinkering. Didn't have any problems at all.

Viva New Vegas using Wabbajack and Flatpak Steam.

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=120 RADV_DEBUG=noatocdithering gamemoderun %command%
Sometimes the game would not let me tab back in or would crash when playing in fullscreen, setting the game to windowed locked the frame rate to 58 fps.
For anyone using the GOG or Epic version of the game wanting to use Viva New Vegas, you need to use Proton as all versions of Mod Organizer 2.5.0+ will crash with wine-ge. If you just want to play vanilla it just works, no tinkering required (apart from capping the FPS to 60 if you have a monitor with a refresh rate higher than 60 and want the physics and everything to work right but that's true for Windows too).

Simply installed and played.
There is a bit of input "sticking" or key release lag when moving, specially while crouched. It happens once in a while, but nothing that breaks the gameplay or anything, just feels weird.
Everything else works as intended, including the launcher. There is a occasional stutter/microfreeze when aproaching certain areas, but i can't tell if it's the game or due to my hardware.

No matter what I do, no matter how many reinstalls and tricks, nothing works.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Changed the .ini settings file to allow for normal mouse movement (Like everyone here did)
Dissapointing. It worked before.

PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Sometimes randomly quits
The "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" command is put because i have NVSE and other mods installed.
A warning message displayed when I first launched it. I ignored and had no issues after.

New Vegas works well with vanilla, but like playing on Windows: it is recommended to follow a mod guide such as Viva New Vegas.
I'm using the Viva New Vegas guide by Ungeziefi, but I will provide what I have done to make the game work.
Firstly, run the vanilla game first to make sure the game works. You may have to play in windowed mode for the first boot. Secondly, use Rockerbacon's MO2 Linux fork and run through the steps. Thirdly, make sure you have vcrun2022 on the prefix you are using for New Vegas (either global/default or specific.) You can do that by clicking on the install a Windows DLL or component. Follow through with the guide. When you get to the utilities section for BSA Decompressor and ESM Fixes, you run the executable via Wine.
WINEPREFIX=[...] wine [...]
For the launch commends in the MO2 profile, make sure to include this:
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
I believe that's everything important to note here. Viva las Vegas, baby!
Minor crackling happens regardless of vanilla or modded.
The ending of the utilities section and performance guide show how to fix alt-tabbing not working.
I would like to thank ModdingLink Discord server members Demitrix, Kontonid, Foamp, Trianta, Aristocat, and Griffin Wood for helping me. My appreciation is immeasurable.

Works out of the box, i just clicked install and that's it
I haven't tried any mods
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%

Runs incredibly well. Rarely see crashes even with mods installed. Even when it does crash, it never seems to be consistent based on an area in game, just gives up. Definitely recommend.

The launcher opens and works fine, but the play option just crashes the game.
With Proton Exerimental, I can't chose any option from the menu.
Le jeux fonctionne correctement

Stuttering. More when Vulkan shaders aren't precompiled (can take up to 1h), less when they are, but they never vanished completely.
I was only able to start the game when it was installed in the 'main partition' (the one / is on). On an otherwise mounted partition it was unable to start. The later problem might be because it was an NTFS partition, I did not test it on another ext4 partition.

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Without using any extra options, the game will not detect your GPU and use llvmpipe instead, which is extremely slow. The opening cutscene is unwatchable, and once you get in the game, barely runs, even at 720p. However, after adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 to your launch options, it will immediately detect your GPU. Upon relaunching the game, it will autoconfigure it for you. After that, the game just works.

Works perfectly
I experienced no issues whatsoever. No stuttering, crashing or texture issues at all. Honestly in my experience it runs better on Arch than it did on Windows.
The game, like many other bethesda titles, has mouse acceleration by default. I don't think that this is Linux specific behaviour and you'd probably have to do the same on Windows, but regardless.
To turn it off, navigate to the game's data directory and add the following to Fallout_default.ini
under the Controls
section:
fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0
