There was a part where i saved, and when i tried to load that save, the game crashed with a runtime error, this is bug game and not proton bug. Happened just once, saving is safe most of the time.
Played it from start to finish without problems, the game supports up to 144hz. I played with Xbox Controller and it works without problems.

I had to disable DXVK-NVAPI via Heroic Games Launcher and use Proton GE, otherwise, the game will freeze at start.

Minor visual distractions aside, the game works as on Windows.
The mouths during cutscenes are usually bugged out.

Borked. Does not read keyboard
With the latest GE-Proton I can start the game and see the cinematics, but when I arrive at the player cration screen, I cannot do anything as the game doesn not read the keyboard at all.
Tested this with the latest GE-Poton, Proton Experimental, Proton 8 and Proton 7. With Proton experimental the game loads, has visible framerate issues and cannot read keyboard input. With Proton 8 and 7, all I get is a black screen and I cannot do anything. Under 8 and 7 I cannot forcibly close the game with my global shortcuts.
I'm trying to run the game under Wayland. Don't know if it works under X11.
change in game contol to xbox360 controls

Game on native proton goes to splash screen and boots out. Other proton versions bring to black screen and hang
Tried proton experimental and all the way down to 7.0.6
Borked

MANGOHUD_CONFIG=vsync=3 %command%
crackling sound in videos with vsync enabled
Works pretty well, nothing major to report.
As others have mentioned, when you start up the game, it'll stay on a black screen. Just press ESC and it should bring you to the main menu.

game runs very well out of the box
Crackling in opening cutscene

The sound in the intro scene doesn't work well but the game cut scenes are fine.
The game started in a weird shifted resolution. Had to change the resolution on this file.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/21980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My\ Documents/Call\ of\ Juarez\ -\ Bound\ in\ Blood/Out/Settings/Video.scr
The game starts with black screen, can skip it with ESC.
seems to work out of the box with proton 6.3-5, hit esc or enter on black screen at startup
might be tricky to set the resolution correctly on first start
Starts with black screen.Wait a minute or so then press a key and game runs fine.
After launch the game will show a black screen. Hit ESC or SPACE to enter the main menu.

Started and saw a blank screen. Went changed resolution 1920x1080 as suggested in other reports by editing ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/21980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My\ Documents/Call\ of\ Juarez\ -\ Bound\ in\ Blood/Out/Settings/Video.scr
Restarted and saw black screen but esc/key press got me to menu. In game cut scene are fine
protontricks 21980 wmp9
- Run the game once (black screen intro) to create the prefix 2. protontricks 21980 wmp9 (for the cutscenes) 3. I could not see the whole menu to set the resolution, so Edit config file so set the resolution : steamapps/compatdata/21980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood/Out/Settings/Video.scr
Resolution(1920,1080)

5.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
I've used Proton 5.5-GE-1 so it would fix low quality voices in the game. Funny how on Windows 10 itself the audio problem is also present, but on linux it's an easy fix with Proton swap.
The game boots up in the lowest resolution by default and it's a pain in the butt to fix that, but it's doable (use virtual desktop resolution with winecfg for the prefix or just change fullscreen option in settings and using arrow keys get to lower right corner and press enter, that's where the Apply button is).
Intro and background videos in the menu do not show up, but this isn't a big issue, just press any button when the game starts to skip "intro" and ya good to go. Any story cut scenes are either in-game ones or in a format of the video that works.
Installed WMP9 to the prefix for wmv playback support, enables cutscenes. Instructions for CoJ Gunslinger, work for this game too: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/366#issuecomment-586774468
Since you need to manually fix the resolution and videos aren't working, this is a definite no.
Used D9VK since this is an old game.
Was able to fix the resolution problems by enabling Virtual Desktop in winecfg for game's perfix.
None of the videos work, not the intro, not the video in the menu, not in the cutscenes.
You may have to make a minor tweak to run the game corretly.
... steamapps/compatdata/21980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood/Out/Settings/Video.scr
Resolution(1920,1080)
Mouse sensitivity is too high.
The games runs solid and without any gameplay affecting issues.
I experienced minor barely noticable audio crackling during my initial long (1-2 hours) play session
After launch the game will show a black screen, I am guessing it's an issue with the intro video. Hit ESC or SPACE to enter the main menu.
I recommend running the game with D9VK for improved performance.

As previous report says press ESC after a few seconds at the start to get pass the black screen and it runs fine with D9VK. Minor tweaks, but rating is Gold since it's not quite working out of the box.

black screen on launch, just hit ESC after a couple seconds. I'm playing with D9VK, great performance, no issues so far

As mentioned by others before, the game is starting up with a black screen. Just hit ESC after a while an the main menu shows up. On my system there went something wrong with scaling in full screen mode. Main menu and character selection in game not working correctly. I have to use windowed mode. But setting the desktop resolution to same of the window resolution, it looked like full screen mode. From now on, the whole game was running without any further issues.

Tried different tweaks, but without any success. Game is starting but is lacking textures completely, therefore unplayable for me.

Manual edit to set resolution as described here ".steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/21980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My\ Documents/Call\ of\ Juarez\ -\ Bound\ in\ Blood/Out/Settings/Video.scr" then game runs perfectly well with all settings on max. Very smooth at 3840x1600.

Game detects resolution wrong, workaround set "-windowed" mode as Steam launch option, start the game (it defaults to a low resolution) and then you can select whatever resolution you want. Intro and cut-scene videos are black, but can be skipped by just pressing enter. In-game graphics were heavily glitched to the point of being unplayable, missing textures etc.. Tried different Proton launch options but made no difference. Also tried Proton 3.7-8 to make sure this is not a regression and got same results. Even if the previous guys reports did not experience issues with the graphics in-game, this would still be Silver at best because of missing videos.

open
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/21980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood/Out/Settings/Video.scr
change :
Resolution(1024,768) in Resolution(1920,1080) or other resolution that matches with your screen
after black screen press enter, press enter again you will hear sound (music) , press windows key to see all open windows, you will see the menu. after that the game runs fine.

Takes long to launch. The screen is black until I wait a while and then press enter, and then alt tab out and back into the game. The game itself works fine until I get enough concentration (60), in which moment the game just crashes. Online play was not tested at all.

After disabling ESync I was able to achieve full frames for over an hour with little to no dips. Would rate Platinum if not for having to disable ESync

There is a black screen if you do not modify the resolution of the game before you start (like someone wrote it here) but after this runs perfectly!!!! Great game!

Screen resolution auto-detection is broken on first launch, so you need to edit ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/21980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood/Out/Settings/Video.scr and hardcode your resolution there, ie: Resolution(1920,1080). Once it boots, press enter on the black screen, after dismissing the serial key disclaimer (shift+tab), and the welcome screen will appear. It is Golden from there. It works better than in windows10 (plagued with compatibility issues)
